Birthday Extravaganza - Monday

In honor of my birthday, I took the day off of work on Monday. My only plans were Burke Williams (ahhhh) and class.

As previously mentioned, I ended up with a visually impaired massage therapist for my 85 minute swedish/shiatsu combo. I'm generally not too picky about who does the massage as long as it's nice and relaxing. I made a few conclusions this go around that will forever change my preferences.

I've had dozens of massages (most were out of necessity, now it's just for want). I've had 4 male therapists and it was only on Monday that I realized why I will now have a female preference. It has nothing to do with modesty. Somewhat surprisingly, I concluded that it was the MALE therapists that seem more compelled to chat throughout the massage.

I enjoy the peace and quiet and falling into semi-slumber without the obligation of conversation. That's the whole point of a relaxing massage - that and relaxing my poor tense muscles.

The other practical purpose of a massage that I learned on Monday is that it helps me with my Anatomy class. As I felt each part get massaged I played "Name that Bone" (we'd been studying the skeletal system in class). Of course I used this fact to "convince" the hubby that I needed another massage before my test on the muscle system to help me "study". :)

When Sales Skills Pay Off

It occurred to me last weekend that my national sales conference for work conflicts with a week of my class that just might be a tad critical the first week of April. By critical I mean an exam and a final lab before another exam the following week. Not a good thing.

I tell the instructor my situation tonight and she's not selling me on the fact that she's willing to work with me and says something to the effect of "we'll see how you're doing at that point to see if it's worth my time to do the extra work to accommodate you".

I go in for the close. Yes, that's right, I pull the brain surgery card. No good lead in other than that I plan to do well in the class as I'm extremely interested in the field post surgery for Chiari Malformation. That gets her attention, and she bites!!! She asked questions, I explained. I dazzled her with my knowledge of the lingo such as posterior, foramen, fossa, occipital, vertebrae, spasms, etc. She asked if I would mind sharing the films and reports with her. Of course not!

As I go to leave, she comments that she expects that I'll be doing just fine by April and we'll work something out. SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRE!

You know you're old when...

I will now copy and paste an email I received from the dear hubby today:

Okay, so on my lunch break today, I was feeling a little nostalgic, so I looked up my old schools. These are definitely signs of getting old…

High School: I recognized some of the teachers’ names, but I only saw one or two that I had.
Middle School: There is ONE of my teachers remaining, and she looked old when I had her in 8th grade
Elementary School: I did not recognize one member of the faculty! No teachers, no administrative staff, nothing! The only person that remains is the crossing guard, and she has to be pushing 90 at this point!

Do you realize it has been 16 years since I was in elementary school?

I think that I am better off than the hubby on this one. I know for certain that there are at least a few teachers still teaching at the schools I went to. HOWEVER, it does make me feel old when people that I went to school with are TEACHING at those same schools.
