When Jenn Goes Shopping

I HATE shopping for clothes for myself. I'm disproportionate, so sizes mean little to me. I always have to try tops on, which I hate doing, so when I find a style and size that fit, I buy as many as I can so that I can avoid shopping again for as long as possible. This makes for a fairly boring wardrobe, but Pickle says that I do well for what I'm working with. (It sounds sort of mean, but really it's not!)

I've lost a lot of weight fairy quickly, so it seems that I no more buy a pair of pants or shorts and they're too big within a few weeks. I know, I know, it's a good problem to have.
The above pictures are of my bargain finds: 2 pair of shorts $3 each and 1 dress $10. Life is good!

I got an A in Auto Shop...really!

While the hubby was putting air in one of my tires a few nights ago after my Pilot's warning light came on, I commented that we needed to check for a leak, because this particular tire seems to have a slow leak. It generally irritates him that I know a good amount about car maintenance. He knows it's a combo of what I learned from my dad, my first boyfriend, and...taking Auto Shop in high school.

When I was relaying this story via BBM to Queen B, she was perplexed that I'd taken AS in HS. Testing this reaction, I then relayed the story to Kim1Champ, who had the SAME reaction. Thus I am posting this so that you all can know this odd tidbit about me.

It seems very practical to me - I can change a tire, change my oil, and take apart and (possibly still) put back together a carburetor. Granted, I have AAA and would just pay someone to do all of this for me, but if I was ever stranded, I could survive. (I was stranded once, but that is a story for another day). I did get an A (both semesters) and I swear it has nothing to do with the fact that I was one of 2 girls in the class. :)

When the lights go out...

Most normal people replace a light bulb when it burns out. Others wait until they all burn out. :)

This light is in our bedroom, on our ceiling fan. I sorta like the dimmer lighting in the bedroom. I'll get around to replacing them when they all burn out...maybe :)

Another trip to my least favorite place...

So when faced with the following dilemma, I made the wrong choice.

Dilemma:
Go to Wal-Mart which is less than 5 miles from my house to get detergent
-OR-
Go to Target which is aobut 15 miles away.

I opted for Wal-Mart and had the experience which will now begin my boycott of all Wal-Marts in the land.

Historically, WM is the one store that always has liquid Tide HE. Today they didn't. Having my emergency box of detergent at home, I decided that it wasn't a crisis, and would just pick up the blue fabric softener and head home. I'd visit Target tomorrow for a complete shopping trip and get the appropriate product then. No blue fabric softener...which I learned it Water Lily & Jasmine. Annoyed I grabbed the purple one - Vanilla & Lavender and prayed that it wouldn't be too girly.

I battle my way to the check out and go to pay with my debit card...on the screen is the following question: "Was the store clean today?" I literally burst out laughing. I selected "No" and was then allowed to continue with my transaction. Are they serious?

I get out to the parking lot and head to where I thought I'd parked. My car wasn't there. I'd remembered the butthead in a jalopy that had turned in front of me at the last minute stealing my spot. I head off to where I thought I'd ended up parking. My car wasn't there. I wandered around the parking lot for about 5 minutes until I found my car with the following thoughts running through my head:
-Did someone steal my car in the 10 minutes I was in the store?
-Are Kim1Champ's parking lot issues contagious?
-Did I really lose my car in the parking lot after only 10 minutes?
-(flash of the commercial where the old lady loses her car in the parking lot and relys on a recording device) Do I need to start recording where I park?
-How retarded do I look?!

Thankfully I found my car and returned home to write about my adventures at WM.

This one is for Margot...Trip to Wal-Mart

I've become a snob and I admit it. However, I was born to former white-trash parents, so like Margot, it's in my blood.

I've been procrastinating in sewing the sashes for the Koenigsball because my little heart just isn't in it. I'm down to the 11th hour so to speak as the ball is next weekend. I (of course) wait until 7:00 on Sunday night to bust out the sewing machine and sashes.

Alas, the metal foot (that is absolutely necessay to using the machine) is MIA. I vaguely recall seeing it (separate from the machine of course) last weekend when I cleaned out the closet in the guest bedroom. I remember that I put it in a "safe place". It's in such a safe place, that after tearing my guest bedroom apart, I cannot find it.

I make a vain attempt to see if Wal-Mart carries the replacement feet. (I know it's possible to buy them separately, just few places are open after 7:00 on Sunday.) Wal-Mart's website is as icky as the store. I decide I'll just drive down to the Wal-Mart in Perris. I'm wearing gaucho pants and a CSUF Alumni t-shirt. I throw on some flip flops and decide that I'm appropriately dressed for an excursion to Wal-Mart.

I park near the entrance to the garden center because I consider this to be my secret bat cave entrance. The lines at the front of Wal-Mart are always way to long and the garden center line is usually tolerable. I head off to the sewing section and look in vain for the replacement foot that I know exists. http://www.singerco.com/accessories/presser_line.html?singerco_product_id=1337

Since Wal-Mart does not carry the replacement feet I am faced with a dilemma with 2 quick solutions: 1) go to jo-ann fabric tomorrow and get a replacement foot. 2) buy a cheap machine, "borrow" the foot, then return it. Which option do you think I chose?

Coming soon...Returning a sewing machine to Wal-Mart

Question for you (my readers):
Which part of this story makes me the most white-trash?
