Repeat Performance

Striker bowled 6 more games this evening. After winning $601 last night with a 236, 229, and 183, I was crossing my fingers for a repeat performance!
His scores:
193, 193, 236, 210, 236, and...214 :(

Yes, I am happy that he bowled well and I am happy with 3 236s, but I am sad that his last game was 214 instead of 210. He picked up a spare on his last ball that gave him the 214....If he'd opened, he'd have had....210! Yes, I scolded him.

We'll find out what he won after we watch a few more episodes of 24 Season 4 to kill a few hours. We further killed time by making 5 u-turns (Striker) trying to find Olive Garden for take out. :)

English Teachers Beware!

Found at a women's restroom, at Burger King, in Baker.

In case you are mobiley reading, it says "Out of Order We. Are sorry!! Att. Mang."

How Much TV Do You Watch?

Of course Striker and I stopped at Starbucks on the way to Vegas this morning. I had The Way I See It #51, which says that Americans spend an average of 29 hours a week watching television. Four hours a day watching TV?!

Striker explained that they count commercial time and pointed out that the average sporting event is 2 and a half to 3 hours. This makes it seem more reasonable, but I am still way under average! I probably watch about 15 hours of shows with commercials per week. Thanks to the magic of Tivo it ends up being about 10 hours on average. Of course this does not include my recent marathons of 24!

Award for Worst Customer Service

Several of the faithful readers are rather artsy, so I know you'll be with me on this one...

Today I went to Michaels at lunch in search of some ribbon for my Uncle's wedding in June that I'm acting as wedding coordinator for. Ribbon is very important as it determines just about everything else I'll get. I totally scored and found the perfect shade in satin in the sizes that I knew I'd need. I headed to the checkstand and found myself 4th in line. Of course, the line moved slowly since everyone wanted to discuss their various projects or were asked about them by the cashier.

More people joined the line behind me. The lone cashier did not call for a back up cashier. However, when another employee walked by (also not bothering to jump on a register and help get the line down), the cashier said to the employee, "I need to take my lunch". It was at this point that I updated my Facebook status to "Jennifer is baffled by the customer service at Michaels" and knew I'd be writing this blog. HUH?! With 5 people in line you decide that you need to take your lunch?! On what planet?! Luckily the employee walking by decided to cover for the cashier so that we were all not left standing there with our items.

BTW, this happens on a regular basis at every Michaels I've been to regardless of the day or time. Please tell me I'm not the only one with this experience?

Any other nominees for the Worst Customer Service Award?

Conference Call "Fun"

Things I did while trapped on a 2 hour conference call today:
Ate a banana, took this photo, BBM'd with another hostage, wrote this blog, cleared my Inbox, wrapped a gift, performed other mindless tasks, BBM'd the hubby, and laughed at my Facebook supporters. Now at the 50 minute mark, I contributed insight and shared a best practice (Bingo Margot) that started a productive conversation after the presenters talking at us for the first 50 minutes. Only 70 minutes to go!

Dinner with my Sistor

Striker is out of town until Sunday, so I went to dinner with my Sistor tonight. We originally planned on going to Mimi's, but there wasn't any parking within a half mile radius, so we opted for Islands where we got a front row spot. What exactly does this say about us?

Addict, Easily Influenced by Others

My name is Jenn Ann and I am addicted to 24 (Rachel, Pickle, and Kim made me do that) and cupcakes from Dolcissimo (Pickle and the Little Sistors made me do that). I do not even want to count the number of visits and # of cupcakes purchased since I learned of this place. I can tell you that I've watched 66 episodes, wait, make that 67, of 24 in less than 3 weeks. Best show ever!!! And I usually don't like that sort of show. It's better than House, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Lipstick Jungle, and ALL reality shows including Big Brother....and we know how much I love Big Brother! My only advice is to start watching Season 1 during the summer hiatus when there is nothing else to prevent you from having a 24 marathon every night. Hubbys will love it too!

Ant Produce

No Joke! There wasn't any other writing on the truck.

Guess the Cost

There's a baby shower game where you have to guess the cost of various baby items. I find it annoying because I don't have a clue as I don't have much need for pacifiers and wipes. In retaliation, here's the Costco version:

Scoop Away Cat Litter 40 lbs
Kirkland Cat Food 25 lbs
Bananas 3 lbs
Mangos 2 lbs
Clementines 5 lbs
Organic Milk 3 1/2 gallons
Sliced Apples 3 lbs
Bounty Paper Towls 12 Mega Rolls
Rug 30" x 50"

Your best guess on the total? (If you follow my FFSUs, you'll know it was under $100!)

My Furries

I went to Disneyland with my mom and sister. When I got home, I found the Furry Convention on the couch. Cut Striker some slack...he's not feeling well, hence the pajamas. :)

Happy Birthday Mom!

Hope you have a fun day today! I love you!!!

Sacrifices

After bowling 15 games and 2 additional hours of practice, this is what Striker's thumb looks like....pretty huh? He assures me that it doesn't hurt. Sadly, we will be returning home tomorrow....maybe Vince Wood should have come after all since it appears he brings out the best in Striker....my shirt appears to have failed him :(

Wind Up Toy?

Yes, that is a wind up key on the back of the Scion, and yes it actually winds continuously.

Ways to Wake Yourself Up in the Morning

NOT Recommended!
As I told my mother, If I were her, I'd need stitches. Quarter of an inch slice on my middle finger due to an early morning incident with a pill cutter.

Yes there was a good amount of blood, no I didn't panic. Yes, I realize that it takes an idiot to cut oneself on a pill cutter....I reached into a bag to pull it out and it was stuck...guess what my finger was holding on to?

Thought I'd need a tetanus shot, but I got one 2 years ago when I went to the Dominican Republic, so I'm good!

Off to watch Striker bowl!

On Striker's Christmas List

BTW, Striker beat this guy last weekend. :)

If you'd like to follow along and watch Striker's progress this week, his schedule is as follows:
Monday - practice at 10:00
Tuesday - 5 games of qualifying at 8:00
Wednesday - 5 games of qualifying at 11:15.

Thanks to technology, there are several ways to Stalk Striker:
1) Go to www.usbcopen.com scroll down to the bottom and on the left hand side there is a box with a link to the Striker Cam! He starts on lanes 25-26 on Tuesday.

2) If your job actually requires your to ahem work, you might enjoy the live scoring option on www.pba.com go to the Interactive tab and then select the Live Scoring option. I haven't visited that site, but the event is the Masters Tournament at the Cashman Center in Vegas.

3) Follow along with my FFSU :)

Side note: my personal space was just violated. I am sitting in an area with no less than 44 chairs that had only 3 people sitting in said area and a couple just sat down in the seats right next to me! Seriously? Personal space! Am I rude if I get up and move? Too late, moving!

It's Called Paint!

Our hotel room in Vegas overlooks this roof....you'd think they'd give it a fresh coat of paint since half of their rooms overlook it.....

WTF?

Apparently it's from Mexico...

Striker vs Vince Wood

As you know, Striker bowled "with" Vince Wood last Sunday. Upon hearing of the match up, Queen B promptly issued me a bet: $50 if I tripped Vince prior to the start of the match and $10 if I got a posed picture of the (matching) duo.

If you'll notice, their shirts are equally untucked a little more on their bowling side (right). This started what will be a series of ways they are alike. It's fitting that the series will be this week as we are in Vegas for the USBC Masters Tournament. Wish Striker good luck and high scores!

Pay up QB!

Spoiled?

If you recall, I am the girl that took Auto Shop in high school. (I'll link to that post later, I am mobiley).

Today, due to issues at CVS, Striker was unable to take my Pilot to get the oil changed before the place closed. Since we are driving to Vegas in the morning, it was imperiative that the oil be changed today. That meant I needed to take it.

Prior to bring married, I always took my car and was very competent at doing so. Today when I took my car, I had difficulty answering this question: What year is your car? 2006? No, 2007? Frantically BBM Striker. He confirms it was a 2007.

When did I become that girl?
This proves that not only am I spoiled, but that my Pilot has been problem free since I've had it!

I knew I could use new windshield wipers but didn't feel confident I'd get the right ones ;)

It's a (Bowling) Miracle!!!

Growing up in Diamond Bar, all of my bowling experience was at Oak Tree Lanes due to it's close proximity to our house - why go anywhere else?!

When I met Striker and learned that he was a bowler, we decided to go to Oak Tree on a date. It was one of maybe 2 times since I've known him that he's bowled there. Why you ask? Because their real wood lanes are in TERRIBLE condition. So much so that even a straight shot "bowler" like myself notices all of the dips and speed bumps.

Today I received an email from Striker, subject: FINALLY!!! When I opened it, I saw this:

YIPPEE!!!

The Story from the Other Day

On Saturday, I mentioned that Lil Dahl and I were late, but that the story was for another day. Here's the story...sorry there are no pictures.

Saturday, 1/31/09
Approximately 10:00 AM
I get a call from Mom confirming that she will be meeting me at 1:30 at my house to go watch Striker bowl.

Saturday, 1/31/09
Approximately 10:30 AM
(BTW, this day/time format is heavily influenced by my new love of 24).
I get a call from Lil Dahl telling me that Auntie is taking Mom to the ER. (BTW, not a good way to start the conversation when your mother has mild heart issues).

LD: Auntie's taking Mom to the ER.
JA: What?! Why?! What happened?!
LD: She cut her finger.
JA: What??
LD: She cut her finger and started spewing blood. (This is a problem because my mom has been known to pass out from seeing her own blood).
JA: How? (Like the Queen, Queenie (my mom) does not cut or generally wield sharp knives).
LD: With a tape measure. She's upset that there's blood on the carpet. (She finally got new beige carpet put in a few weeks ago and replaced the 20 year old navy blue carpet, so it's not entirely irrational).
JA: Wait, hold on. Why is she waiting for Auntie to drive to your house and pick her up when you are there with her? If she's spewing blood, should you be taking her immediately and picking Auntie up on the way or having her meet you there? Which hospital is she going to?
LD: I don't know. It's mom. She wants Auntie to take her.
JA: How big is the cut?
LD: I don't know, she has it wrapped up.
JA: Is there a chance she's going to bleed to death?
LD: No.
JA: I guess not, if she hasn't passed out and is worried about the blood on the carpet.

Saturday, 1/31/09
Approximately 11:15 AM
LD: Mom wants to know how to get blood out of the carpet.
JA: (racking brain, knowing there is some home remedy) Not sure...Folex should probably work. That stuff takes everything out.
LD: Where do I get that?
JA: Bed Bath & Beyond, Wal-Mart maybe.

Simulataneously...
Auntie: How do you get blood out of carpet?
JA: Lil Dahl just asked me that...not sure. How's Mom?
A: They are putting 2 stitches in.
JA: 2?! I thought her finger was chopped off or something.
A: Nevermind, I asked a nurse. Peroxide gets blood out.
JA: That's it! I knew there was something!

Saturday, 1/31/09
Approximately 11:30AM

LD: I got all of the blood out of the carpet! I'm a rockstar!
JA: Woo Hoo!
LD: You know mom's not going to come watch Striker bowl now right?
JA: She's not?
LD: No, and I have to take my car to the dealer.
JA: Sigh...I'll wait for you.

And that is why we were approximately 1 hour late to watch Striker bowl. The Striker vs. Vince Wood match up is coming soon...with photos!

Business in the Front, Party in the Back

So much to post about the Striker vs Vince Wood match up, but I need to upload the pictures. I couldn't deprive you of this one though!
